At Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, we have been making Mount Pleasant a better place to live for over three decades. We believe in our neighbourhood and in the ability and the right of its members to enhance their lives. Working together we are a stronger, healthier neighbourhood.

Volunteer with MPNH

Contact: To volunteer contact us at 604-879-8208 or email us. You can download an application form here, and either mail it or drop it off in person.

Volunteers play a major role in the daily life of our House. In the kitchen and helping out at special events, greeting people at our busy Front Desk, working with youth, helping out in our childcare programs, teaching a class or sharing your computer expertise with immigrant seniors, assisting with fundraising or volunteering on our community board or any other number of areas, volunteers, staff and participants work together to make the House the best it can be. We invite you to get in touch with us to find out where you can help. Positions may be short-term, project based, or long-term, depending on the nature of the posting. Volunteers need to fill out an application, available at our Front Desk, or you can download one (above) and fax or mail it to us. Applicants interested in a position of any duration are required to submit information for a criminal records check and pay a refundable fee of $30, which will be reimbursed after completing 35 hours of volunteer time. Information about volunteer postings is available at our Front Desk, or check our listings to see if there is a position that is right for you. Feel free to apply anytime, even if there isn't currently a posting of interest to you. If you are selected for a position, a staff member will contact you to come in for an interview.

Volunteer Recognition Events

Volunteer Appreciation Night

Once a year, we host a Volunteer Appreciation Night (VAN) during National Volunteer Week, each spring. This event, open to all our volunteers, includes a dinner, entertainment, and awards ceremony and also a chance for volunteers, staff, and Board members to meet and celebrate the achievements of our helpers in making our neighbourhood a better place to live and our House a Home.

Good Neighbours Awards

Every fall, the Association of Neighbourhood Houses, of which we are a member, holds this event for all the member Houses to recognize individual and corporate volunteers at each House. A dinner and entertainment as well as awards ceremony takes place at The Italian Cultural Centre. Volunteers are nominated by staff at each House and recognized at the GNA event. For more information, see the GNA page on the Association of Neighbourhood Houses site.
