ReUse Tech BC - 50 Stories for 50 Years (Story # 36)

A Testimonial

My name is Mary-Em Waddington, and I serve as the Executive Director of ReUseTech BC. Our relationship with Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House (MPNH) began through providing refurbished laptops to learners who otherwise would not have access to technology. It has been a privilege to support MPNH's mission as a community partner. Throughout our collaboration, I have witnessed the organization's unwavering commitment to strengthening communities through leadership, partnership, and meaningful investment in people and place.

For newcomer families with school-aged children, navigating the Canadian school system can be both confusing and overwhelming, particularly when so much communication takes place online. Last spring, ReUseTech BC partnered with MPNH to host a technology workshop for forty Spanish-speaking caregivers. Together, we helped parents learn how to navigate the digital platforms used by their children's schools. Each family received a refurbished laptop, along with practical instruction on using technology to communicate with teachers, access school information, and stay connected to their child's education.

As MPNH marks its 50th anniversary, it is an opportunity to celebrate the organization's remarkable legacy and the lasting contributions it has made to communities across the region. Looking ahead, I hope MPNH will continue to build on this strong foundation by serving those who need it most, providing trusted leadership, fostering innovative partnerships, and advancing solutions that create resilient, and inclusive communities. I am honoured to support MPNH's work and look forward to the lasting impact it will continue to have.

50 Stories for 50 Years at MPNH is a collection of meaningful stories that celebrate the lasting impact our Neighbourhood House has had over the years. These stories come from long-time participants, families, youth, volunteers, community members, and regular visitors whose lives have been touched, supported, or transformed through our programs, services, and connections at the House.

Celebrate with us, honour the impact of the past five decades, and help shape the next 50 years of connections and community!
