Get to know our volunteer of the month, Celeste!

What do I do in my role as a volunteer?

I volunteer at the front desk, where I answer phone calls, greet people, and help with any questions they may have. I also help keep the café area clean and organized. I really value the time I spend interacting with people and getting to know different members of the community. I’m always happy to help with any other tasks that may be needed. I also used to volunteer by helping Danielle in the lunch program.

When did you begin volunteering at MPNH?

I started volunteering with MPNH in January of this year, 2026.

Why do you volunteer?

I decided to volunteer because I wanted to be part of a community that genuinely helps others and give back for everything Canada has given me. Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House has been especially meaningful to me because the activities and the warm people here have helped me so much throughout my own process of adapting to a new environment. Volunteering has given me the opportunity to give back while also feeling connected to the community.

Can you share a story or instance where you felt you made an impact?

I feel that every time I come to MPNH, I experience something positive. One of the most valuable things for me has been having the opportunity to meet new people and build a support network during this time in my life. Every interaction and connection I’ve made here has made me feel more welcomed and supported, and I’m very grateful for that.

Your favorite memory at MPNH?

My favorite memory at MPNH was the Christmas dinner they had last year. It was such a wonderful experience! I got to meet so many people, participate in fun activities, and dance, which is one of my favorite things to do. It was a really special night because I felt so connected to the community and got to enjoy such a fun moment with everyone.
