Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, a registered charity neighbourhood hub that offers events, childcare and community programs, has converted two parking stalls in front of its building into a mini park, or parklet. The new gathering space on the corner of East Broadway and Prince Albert Street includes an enclosed patio with seating and a garden.

Help us build & animate this East Van parklet—an accessible front porch for our whole neighbourhood!

Kids like Bronte and Izak need a safe outdoor space to play! We’re building a parklet outside our House so we can help them learn and grow together.

It’s almost here! The parklet outside Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House is all set to be built this weekend on July 20-22. We’re so excited to be able to provide our neighbours with a safe and comfortable spot to rest and play. We now need your support to build and animate this parklet—an accessible front porch for our whole neighbourhood.

Intergenerational Day: Volunteering and connections through The Little Give project

The impact of creating and maintaining connections across generations is a powerful tool in developing and strengthening healthy communities. Intergenerational Day takes place every year on the first of June. At our House, we were lucky this year to have extra support on this day with the Pleasant Ponies volunteer team from Edelman Canada. This communications and marketing agency supports its staff in volunteering each year through their social responsibility program, The Little Give. On Intergenerational Day, these dedicated volunteers came to our House ready for a full day of engagement through volunteering.

Alice’s story: Youth can do it too

Alice is a youth who came to Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House in August 2014. She came to the employment team at our House for assistance with finding a volunteer position, to gain experience for entering the job force. Alice completed Grade 12 with the aid of a learning assistance and life skills program alongside a Work Experience Placement (WEP) as a cashier at a fast food restaurant. Alice mentioned that she had no other work experience, and she wanted to receive case management services—to help her learn job search techniques and find a position as a customer service representative.

Rana’s Story: Finding a fulfilling career in Canada

Two weeks after her move from Dubai to Canada, Rana connected with Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House-WorkBC Specialized Services by attending our ‘BC Industry Speakers and Job Fair’ in February 2018. Here, Rana expressed that she lacked the support of her family in seeking a better life and future for herself. During the event, she signed up to attend an orientation session with the employment program in our House.

Social Inclusion: You Belong Here (Wing Sun’s Story)

Wing Sun is an older adult who was becoming very isolated at home. He was told by his doctor that it wouldn’t be long before he was wheelchair-bound. Hearing this, his case manager referred him to the Beulah Adult Day program at the South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH).
