Bannock and Tea: Nourishing Our Bodies, Healing Our Spirits
In honour of Indigenous History Month and Indigenous Peoples Day
On Monday, June 30, 2025, we gathered at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House to share homemade bannock with honey butter and jams, along with medicinal tea, mindfully prepared by members of our Indigenous community.
The day began with a smudging ceremony led by Sally Lee, Knowledge Keeper for Indigenous Early Years. We were also grateful to welcome Jessica Wismer as the new Indigenous Monday Night Programmer.
Our Senior Line Dancers and MPNH staff joined us, along with new community members who came to connect and be part of the gathering. The event closed with a Round Dance, also known as the Friendship Dance, led by Sally.
It was a heartfelt day filled with tradition, connection, and shared love for our community.
