Get to know our volunteer of the month, Said!
What do I do in my role as a volunteer?
I help with data entry and checking information to make sure everything is accurate. I also troubleshoot and fix computer and laptop issues when people need support. Sometimes, I greet guests when they arrive at the House and help guide them to the right place. I really enjoy being able to assist anyone who needs a hand.
When did you begin volunteering at MPNH?
I started volunteering at MPNH in May 2025. Since then, I’ve felt very welcomed by the team and have enjoyed being part of the community.
Why do you volunteer?
I enjoy helping others and being part of a community. Before coming to Canada, I worked for a non-profit organization helping refugees, so volunteering feels very familiar and meaningful to me. It also gives me the chance to learn new skills, meet new people, and improve my English while doing something I care about.
Can you share a story or instance where you felt you made an impact?
During the Tech Café program, I helped a senior move photos from a very old phone to his laptop. Those pictures were very special to him and he was so happy to have them saved. Seeing his smile made me feel proud because a simple task for me made a big difference for him.
Your favorite memory at MPNH?
On my very first day as a volunteer, I repaired a computer and installed a new operating system. After not working with technology for more than a year and a half, it felt great to do something I love again. It was a moment that reminded me why I enjoy this type of work so much.
