Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity (Impact Story 2024 - 2025)
PRIDE Parade and BBQ
On Thursday, August 9th, 2024, MPNH children and families gathered for a joyful mini PRIDE Parade, celebrating diversity and our commitment to inclusivity. Dressed in vibrant colours and full of smiles, we marched together, showing how far our community has come in embracing change and growth.
The day started with a blessing from Niis Miou of the Nisg̱a’a Nation, grounding us in the importance of connection. We were also joined by Travis Garret Angus, a Two-Spirit parent and Indigenous Community Programmer at South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, who helped lead the celebrations, highlighting the power of transformation through identity and culture. The afternoon was filled with fun, great food, live performances by Marylee, Karlie, and Kardias, and plenty of joy all around.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the community partners, sponsors, Mount Pleasant neighbours, volunteers, and MPNH staff, whose support helped bring this transformative day to life. Together, we continue to build a community that celebrates change, fosters connection, and grows through the power of transformation.
New Community Lunch
In place of our weekly Friday Community Lunch, we launched a new initiative in November 2024: a monthly Community Lunch designed to be more intentional, inclusive, and engaging. This transformation aims to create a space where neighbors and members of all ages can come together, fostering stronger connections and a deeper sense of belonging.
We kicked off this new approach by celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The event marked a turning point for us, and like with any new program, it offered valuable lessons. We embraced these insights and have since worked tirelessly to refine and improve our offerings.
From streamlining volunteer tasks to introducing different activities each month, we’ve continuously adapted to better serve our community.
