MPNH Senior Donna Takes Part in the Community Asian Culinary Arts Training
Donna Cho has volunteered as a community cook across Metro Vancouver for over 40 years, serving neighbourhood houses, community centres, and faith groups with skills learned in restaurants and from her mother. Recently, through a United Way BC grant, Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House partnered with Vancouver Community College to deliver a four-part Cantonese culinary training for community cooks. Led by chef Sonny Ho, the program inspired Donna to pursue her long-time dream of culinary certification.
Rippling Out with MPNH Team ANHBC Strategic Transformation
Our team at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House participated in the Rippling Out Focus Group to deepen our understanding of ANHBC’s Strategic Transformation. Guided by CHÉŃCHENSTWAY and MI TEL ’NEXW, we are committed to learning together, uplifting one another, and integrating Indigenous worldviews to strengthen our impact and support a more inclusive community.
BC Neighbourhood Houses Network Gathering in Victoria, BC
Neighbourhood House representatives from across BC gathered in Victoria for the BC Neighbourhood House Network event. Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House’s Executive Director, Devika Ramkhelawan, shared her personal story and emphasized how Neighbourhood Houses foster connection, belonging, and vibrant communities, thanking MLAs for supporting their essential programs and relationships.
Our Year In Review (April 2024 - March 2025)
Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House held its Annual General Meeting on September 17, 2025. The evening featured lively music from The Satyas and delicious Latin American dishes prepared by the Between Women team. Sally Lee opened with a moving poem and prayer, while the Board shared inspiring stories from the “Transformation” Impact Report. Five new Board Members were welcomed, outgoing members were thanked, and the meeting concluded meaningfully at 6:50 PM.

In recognition of July 1st, we, at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, would like to take a moment to honour this land, share our understanding of the area, and remind ourselves that as settlers we have a responsibility to care for the land and each other. This means centering the voices and perspectives of Indigenous people.

Kardias (@kardiasquing), a Filipino/Canadian artist, brings love and mindfulness through honest lyrics delivered by warm vocals to an eclectic mix of collaborative sounds from a variety of producers.
Meet an MPNH PRIDE Storyteller, Marylee!
Marylee is a story-teller and standup comic who proudly shares the ups, downs, fun, and tears of being a lesbian. She’s volunteered for many seniors and youth programs, and is a long-time supporter of the work of Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House.
Our House is Your House
We began serving the community in 1976 with a youth leadership program that we ran from the basement of a local church, and added our second program, free income tax clinics, from a mobile trailer in 1977. Later that year, we moved to our first storefront building in the 500 block of East Broadway.
